What is the apnea sleep disorder?

The apnea sleep disorder is a condition where one stops breathing for a period of ten seconds to sixty seconds. It is usually correlated with snoring and many people often get snoring and apnea confused. There are two main types of the apnea sleep disorder. The first is obstructive apnea and the other is central apnea. They both produce the same effect of not being able to breath for short durations, however, the root causes are not always the same.

Waking with the sensation of choking

Having trouble staying asleep through the night

What is Obstructive apnea?

This type of apnea is a partial blockage of the airway, often caused by excessive tissue in the airway, large tongue, or large tonsils. Sometimes the nasal cavity being blocked can cause the obstructive apnea as well as a jaw that grew improperly.

What is Central apnea?

This apneas sleep disorder is a neuromuscular problem and leads to the shut down of the breathing function. It is not as common as the obstructive apnea and not as much is know about it.
