The Most Important Tip For Fitness Beginners: Don't Overdo It!

Are you about to start a new workout program? If you are there is one very important thing to keep in mind: don't overdo it. This is a common problem as people new to exercise want to start quickly and get in shape fast. Demanding too much of your sedentary muscles, though, creates stress. You need to gradually incorporate exercise into your daily routine in small increments. By starting slowly and building up gradually, you are more likely to enjoy your exercise and stick with it. Isn't that the most important part of an exercise program?

It's interesting that people often overdo it not because they are over-enthusiastic, but because their own brain sabotages the effort. The inner emotional body will sometimes do everything it can to return the body to its previous state. It can sabotage exercise plans through initial euphoria that urges us to do more than we can or should. If it convinces us to do more than we should, we may be more inclined to give up. Avoid this by taking small steps and constantly reminding yourself to go slow and easy. Remind yourself that you are doing this long term for the physical and emotional well being it will create.

Here's a tip that applies whether you haven't worked out in years or you are athletic, but want to up your workout routine: just get out and do your exercise four times a week. Don't worry about distance or time or pace. Just go out and do it four times. Let your body enjoy the exercise. The reasoning behind this is that you want to develop a new lifestyle. You need a new way of looking at your health and well-being on a daily basis. Eventually, you will increase the four days a week workout to five days a week or even seven. By progressing gradually, you are more likely to enjoy it and stick to it.

Also keep in mind that you don't have to do your exercise all at once. There really is no difference between three ten minute workouts in a day and one thirty minute workout. Add small workouts over the course of the day by parking as far as you can from a store rather than parking close by. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Take your dog for a quick-paced walk. Just make sure you get thirty minutes every day and keep your body healthy.
