Top 10 Cellulite Reducing Tips

Cellulite, it's a fact of life for most women like me. In case you didn't know, cellulite is caused when the fat cells underneath the skin force their way through the connective tissue that holds them in place. Cellulite worsens with age as the strength of the tissue and elasticity of the skin deteriorate. I was surprised to learn that cellulite appears worse on thin people than larger people. I was horrified to hear this statistic that might explain why cellulite worsens with age: women lose the equivalent of 5 pounds of muscle every decade of their life and this lost muscle is replaced with 15 pounds of fat!

I know now that muscle is firm and self-supporting and does not stress the connective tissue underlying the skin. Fat, on the other hand, is soft and flabby and expands into the connective tissue. Fat will stretch, strain and overwhelm the connective tissue.

With some research, I have discovered how to fight and prevent cellulite. Here are my top 10 tips:

1. I utilize healthy eating habits everyday to achieve the ideal weight for my height. It is best to lose excess fat before it has a chance to cause damage to my body's connective tissues.

2. I stopped eating processed and fatty foods. By removing foods that contain refined flour, sugar and hydrogenated fats from my diet, my weight has returned to normal. These substances are alien to our bodies and our bodies do not properly digest or utilize them. Our bodies store them as fat instead.

3. Our bodies are made up primarily of water. I replenish my water supply everyday to avoid dehydration. If my body is dehydrated, it will pull water from stored fat. Once fat has the water removed, it is only that much harder to burn it off later. I keep my body saturated with at least 8 glasses of the best water I can find everyday.

4. I avoid alcohol and caffeine as much as possible. They cause dehydration. For every cup of coffee or alcoholic drink I consume, I must replenish my body's water supply with 2 extra glasses of water to keep properly hydrated.

5. I avoid fatty foods as much as possible. While healthy fats are essential to the body, processed fats are not. I stick to natural and unrefined fats and oils and use them in moderation.

6. I eat enough fiber everyday to keep my colon clean and clear and functioning properly. Fiber helps my body process waste products effectively. Fiber eliminates toxins.

7. I don't smoke. If you smoke, your blood cells don't get the oxygen they need to function properly. Smoking impairs oxygen levels in my body, making it that more difficult for my body to rid itself of cellulite.

8. I only take medications that are essential to my health. I talked to my physician to make sure the medications I was taking were necessary. Do not ever discontinue taking a prescription medication without approval from your doctor.

9. I exercise every day.

10. I utilize cellulite creams and essential oils. Alternatively, a daily massage does wonders for cellulite.
