Reducing Cellulite

Most people think cellulite is a problem for the overweight. Actually, while fat and cellulite are related, cellulite is not necessarily excess fat, but it is the condition of the connective tissue that holds the fat cells in place. If the connective tissue is not supported by good diet and exercise, it becomes slack and allows fat cells to break through. The fat cells then become trapped in a matrix of fibers. These trapped fat cells are cellulite.

Most doctors and dermatologists will tell you that there is no cure for cellulite many women know that there are a number of steps that can be taken to reduce the unsightly cellulite bumps. Perhaps it is because cellulite is not strictly speaking a medical condition that the medical fraternity offers so little hope of a cure.

If you want to start a diet to maintain ideal body weight and reduce cellulite, make sure it's a diet that is rich in nutrients. Cut out the empty calories in fast food. Maintaining a proper diet, rich in nutrients, helps prevent over-eating. It also helps the body discourage fat storage.

When you eat your meals is almost as important as what you eat. The body stores fat when the metabolic rate is low. Our bodies are programmed to do this to avoid starvation. By eating regular, smaller meals throughout the day, the body is less likely to go into fat-saving mode. The calories will be used as needed.

Participating in aerobic exercises helps too. It increases oxygen uptake at a cellular level which encourages the elimination of toxins. By stimulating the circulation, exercise helps deliver vital nutrients to the cells. To reduce cellulite, get out and exercise for at least an hour every day.

Weight training can also play a part in reducing cellulite by building muscle and strengthening the connective tissues of the body. You don't need to do weight training to the extent that you look like a bodybuilder. The object of weight training is to break down muscle to encourage it to repair and grow. The more muscle fibres in the body, the more calories can be burned each day as the muscles use energy.

Always remember that cellulite is normal and that while much can be done to reduce its appearance, it is unlikely that it will disappear completely. It is a condition that will recur as soon as treatments lapse and those who want to see a reduction in their cellulite must prepare themselves for a lifelong battle.

Next time you are admiring the svelte thighs of magazine models remember that they have almost certainly had the benefit of an airbrush touch up to eliminate their cellulite - a treatment not available to those who live in the real world.
