Sleep Tips From Around The World

Trouble getting to sleep is a universal problem. It can strike anyone, anywhere around the world. Next time you have trouble falling asleep, try one of these methods from around the world:

Acupressure is the art of using pressure points to promote relaxation. The theory here is that by relaxing the body you are able to fall asleep easier. It's quick and easy and something you can try yourself. To try acupressure, massage your pressure points for about one minute each:

a. Your Hand - With the palm facing up, massage right below the first crease of the wrist, where the wrist meets your hand.

b. Your Face - Apply pressure to the spot between your eyebrows with the tips of your index and third finger.

c. Back of Your Head - Gently massage at the indentation at the base of the skull at the back of the head. Move outward an inch on both sides of the skull at the hairline.

Acupuncture has also been use to promote sleep. Acupuncture is the Asian art of using very small and very thin needles into particular parts of the body to stimulate and influence the body. Despite what most people imagine, there really isn't much pain at all when acupuncture needles are placed in the body.

Fung Shui is commonly used to make a room more comfortable and to promote sleep. The art of Fung Shui demands that furniture be placed in a certain way in a room in order to give the room energy. In the bedroom, for example, the bed should be positioned to see the door, though not directly across from it. A bed should not be placed under a window. If it must be placed under a window, curtains are necessary. Fung Shui can make a room more relaxing and promote better sleep.

A lesser known practice is Ayuryedic Medicine, a traditional Indian life science. This practice calls for sleep before 10 p.m. since that is the "sleepy" part of the night when it is easiest to fall asleep. Going to bed at 10 also makes it easier to wake up at 6 a.m., with the sunrise. This practice also says that lunch should be the biggest meal of the day and that only a light meal should be eaten about three hours before bedtime. Also recommended is a lower limb massage using oils just before bed.

There are many different methods that can be used to help you fall asleep at night. While many of them are different, they all have one thing in common-- relaxing so you can fall asleep sooner.
