How To Minimize Jetlag

Whenever you fly cross country or around the world, you will have some jet lag. The result of jet lag is a run down and tired feeling on your trip. Did you know that there are some ways to minimize jet lag so you can enjoy your trip?

One nice little trick is to set your watch ahead to your destination time as soon as you get on the plane. This way, at least in your mind, you start your adjustment to a different time zone immediately. Another recommendation for the actual plane trip is to drink a lot of water. Dehydration will worsen the effects of jet lag. Stay hydrated while you fly.

There's one trick you can try before you leave. Adjust your sleep patterns to your destination city. If you are flying east, try going to sleep a little earlier and waking up earlier. The opposite is true if you are flying west.

If your plane will land at night, try your best to stay awake on the plane so that you will be tired when you arrive and get a good night's sleep. You will feel refreshed and ready to go the next morning. If you are going to arrive at your destination in the morning, try to sleep on the plane and then try to stay awake the next day. If you are tired the next day, don't take more than a brief nap to avoid worsening the jet lag.

Because the internal clock is at least partly based on sunlight and exposure to it, try to be outside as much as possible when you reach your destination. Doing this will help you reset your internal clock.

If you are going on a short business trip and will only be out of your time zone for a couple of days, there really is no point to adjusting your internal clock. You will just have to readjust when you get home.

Adjusting to a different time zone always takes a day or two. Be patient. Jetlag affects everyone differently. Get rest when you need it. By following these tips, you can make it easier for your body to adjust to traveling across time zones.
